Al-Azhar and Egypt condemn the Iranian attacks on the UAE and Jordan

Al-Azhar in Egypt, on Monday, condemned the renewed Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and Jordan, stressing its “categorical rejection of these attacks and the threat they pose to the security of civilians and the stability of the region.”

Iran and the United States exchanged attacks for the first time in more than a month, during the early hours of Monday morning, in a confrontation that threatens to ignite the conflict again after weeks of relative military calm.

Al-Azhar said in a statement on its official account on the “X” platform, previously Twitter: “Al-Azhar Al-Sharif condemns the renewed Iranian attacks that targeted the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” stressing its “categorical rejection of these attacks and the threat they pose to the security of civilians and the stability of the region,” calling on Iran “to respect the rules of good neighborliness, and to stop attacks forbidden by Islamic law against its Muslim neighbors.”

Al-Azhar’s statement called on “everyone to exercise self-restraint, resort to the language of dialogue and wisdom, and work seriously and urgently to stop the escalation and spare the peoples of the region from the scourge of wars and conflicts...”

Earlier Monday, Egypt condemned, in a statement by its Foreign Ministry, the renewed Iranian attacks that targeted the sisterly countries of the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "deep concern about the continuation of these attacks and the direct threat they represent to the security and safety of sister countries and their peoples, in addition to the serious risks they carry of expanding the scope of the confrontation and undermining the chances of restoring stability in the region."

The statement stressed "the need to stop the attacks, reduce the intensity of escalation, return to the negotiating table, and provide the opportunity for diplomatic tracks to reach solutions that contribute to restoring security and stability, and spare the region from the dangers of expanding the scope of the confrontation."

Iran launched missiles towards American military targets in Jordan, in response to an American strike targeting Iranian missile launchers, which Washington said was preparing to launch sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Revolutionary Guard announced launching missile and drone attacks on two American military bases in Jordan.

The Jordanian Armed Forces said on Monday that air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 8 missiles that entered the Kingdom’s airspace. The army added that the projectiles were neutralized before they posed any threat to civilians or property, according to the official Jordanian news agency, Petra.

Six months after the outbreak of the ongoing conflict, the two countries are locked in a confrontation over control of the Strait of Hormuz, which represents a vital artery for global energy supplies.

Tehran asserts its claimed right to manage navigation traffic through the strait, by launching repeated attacks on ships, while the United States insists on keeping shipping traffic open, by escorting ships and imposing a military blockade on Iranian ports.

The exchange of attacks came just days after US President Donald Trump declared the strait free of mines, and represents a departure from a recent shift in Washington policy, which has focused on increasing economic pressure on Iran rather than military moves.
