The trial of an American woman suspected of killing her three sons has been misjudged and she may face a retrial

Reuters reported that the trial, which lasted nearly six weeks in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and was entirely televised, once again sparked controversy in American society over how women's postpartum mental health is treated and how the American judicial system handles cases of mothers killing their biological children.

Since this week, the jury in this case has stated in writing multiple times that they cannot reach a consensus. The presiding judge, William Sullivan, officially declared a mistrial today, giving the case a chance to be retried. However, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said that prosecutors have not yet decided whether to initiate a retrial.

The 36-year-old Clancy strangled his three children to death with elastic cords in the basement of his home in Duxbury, a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts in January 2023.
