Massive fall in the peloton forces Paula Blasi to abandon the race

A breakaway, control, Dutch under the orders of mega-favorite Demi Vollering and a massive fall at the back of the peloton while passing through Mont Royal avenue, where Paula Blasi was riding all the time, who was not feeling very well due to a virus. The leader of the Spanish team, and one of the favorites for the final victory, was swept away by the fall and although it did not appear that she suffered major injuries, she decided to abandon with 93.8 kilometers to go, in the second of the nine crossings to the finish line of the 13 kilometer circuit. The platoon had traveled just 85 kilometers of the total 180.

Many of the favorites fell alongside Blasi. Among them, the current champion, Magdeleine Vallière (Canada), and also Kim le Court Pienaar (Mauritius), Evita Muzic (France) and Femke De Vries (Netherlands). The peloton continued to roll at a frenetic pace. Among the most affected runners, Lauretta Hanson (Australia) and Caroline Anderson (Sweden) remained motionless on the ground for a long time before being treated by race doctors.
