Candidate Marcelo Maranata (PSDB) proposes regionalization of health in Rio Grande do Sul

The PSDB candidate for the government of Rio Grande do Sul, Marcelo Maranata, stated this Wednesday (16), in an interview with Jornal do Almoço, on RBS TV, that he intends to regionalize health into seven centers and remove the centralization of the regulation of consultations and exams from Porto Alegre.

According to Maranata, each region would have its own list of regulations and professionals paid through a state table of the Unified Health System (SUS). The candidate also promised to allocate 12% of the state budget to health.

"I propose that these seven regions have their specialists paid on a SUS scale in Rio Grande do Sul, a State program, not a government program, approved by the Legislative Assembly," he stated.

Maranata also spoke about flood protection works, the electoral campaign with few resources, full-time schools with technical courses and the support of his wife, who is running for state deputy for a party from another coalition. The interview lasted 25 minutes.

Marcelo Maranata Soares Reinaldo is 50 years old. He is from Camaquã and, at the age of 18, moved to Guaíba. A lawyer, he was also a merchant and presided over the Chamber of Store Managers and the municipality's Sindilojas. In 2008, he was elected vice-mayor. In 2020, he was elected mayor of Guaíba and, in 2024, re-elected for a second term.

The interview is part of the Jornal do Almoço series with candidates for the government of Rio Grande do Sul in the 2026 elections.
