Why It Matters

The 2026 elections in Roraima took place after a supplementary election in June, the result of which was not defined by the Electoral Court due to the registration of the candidacy being sub judice. Arthur Henrique, former mayor of Boa Vista, obtained 60% of the valid votes in the supplementary vote, but the result was not approved.

The candidate for the government of Roraima Arthur Henrique (PL) was the first to vote this Sunday. Accompanied by his wife, Nathalia Cortez, and his daughters, he arrived at around 8:05 am at the State University of Roraima (UERR), in the Canarinho neighborhood, east of Boa Vista, where he votes.

"It was a tough year, a year with two elections, in which we had a lot of uncertainty, a lot of court decisions, but our people didn't stop participating. And my expectation is that today we can repeat an even greater participation than we had in the supplementary election", he said.

Arthur Henrique (PL) is from Boa Vista and has Haroldo Cathedral (Novo) as his deputy. He was mayor of Boa Vista for two terms, starting in 2021 and 2025. In April 2026, he resigned from his position to run for government. In the June supplementary election, he obtained 60% of the valid votes, but the result was not defined by the Electoral Court because the candidacy registration was sub judice.

Farah Mesquita (Solidarity)

Candidate Farah Mesquita (Solidarity) was the second to vote, at Escola Municipal Nova Canaã, in the neighborhood of the same name, in the west of Boa Vista, where he votes.

"My campaign was a purposeful campaign. I presented my biography, I presented a proposal, I presented myself as a candidate prepared to govern the state of Roraima. I appeal to the people of the state of Roraima to evaluate the candidate [who was] mainly in the interviews, in the media, radio, TV, where Sampaio, Arthur, Rose were and me too, and in the debates", he said.

Faradilson Reis de Mesquita was born in Maranhão, in the village of Encruzo, currently the municipality of Governador Nunes Freire, and has lived in Roraima since 1988. Farah Mesquita's deputy is Natália Wakiri (PRD). He worked as an advisor in the government of Roraima, under Neudo Campos, and in the Legislative Assembly, in the office of then deputy Márcio Junqueira.

In 2022, he was sentenced by the Roraima Court, together with the Federation of Residents' Associations of Roraima (Famer), to pay R$500,000 for an illegal sale of land in Boa Vista.

The candidate for the government of Roraima Soldado Sampaio (Republicans) was the third to vote. Accompanied by his wife and daughter, he arrived at around 9:50 am at Escola Estadual Professora Raimunda Nonato Freitas da Silva, in the Santa Teresa neighborhood, west of the capital.

"So, I want to record my thanks to each one of you. And I am very confident. I ran a conscious campaign, a clean campaign, based on a proposal, based on our work carried out as governor for a little over 100 days in government. We showed concrete results in the areas of education, security, road repairs, asphalting in cities in the interior of the state and, in particular, in health", he said.

Soldado Sampaio (Republicans) is from Pedreiras, in the interior of Maranhão, and has former federal deputy Shéridan Ramos (Podemos) as his deputy. He is currently interim governor of Roraima. He was a state deputy between 2011 and 2026 and, in 2022, he was re-elected with 8,746 votes. He temporarily took over the government in April 2026, after the revocation of the mandate of then governor Edilson Damião. In the June supplementary election, he came second.

The candidate for the government of Roraima Rosi Aires (PSOL) was the last to vote. Accompanied by two grandchildren, she arrived at around 1:50 pm at the Antônio Ferreira de Souza State School, in the Jardim Floresta neighborhood, also in the west zone of Boa Vista.

"The campaign was good, thank God everything went well. We didn't have any problems with the courts or with the police. It was an arduous journey, we visited many places and met many people. It was very beneficial, very happy to represent the agendas that I defend, especially for the working class, native peoples and LGBT people. I can only thank everyone who, even though they didn't know me, cast their vote in my favor", he stated.

Rosi Aires (PSOL) is from Manaus, in Amazonas, and has as vice-president the indigenous Lúcia Patamona (PSOL). Works at the Psychosocial Care Center for users of alcohol and other drugs (CAPS AD III), in Boa Vista. This is the first time he has contested an election.
