Fuels: Eni's price cap brings savings of up to 9.35 euros per tank

An average saving of 9.35 euros on a full tank of diesel and 8.45 euros on a full tank of petrol. It is the benefit of the cap on fuel prices decided by Eni (a maximum limit of 2.19 euros per liter for diesel and 1.99 euros per liter for petrol), which from tomorrow, 28 September, will be able to reach the pockets of motorists who choose to refuel at the Six-Legged Dog petrol stations.

The first calculations are made by Adusbef, based on the average fuel prices communicated by Mimit. On the ordinary network, Eni's initiative will mean that a liter of petrol will cost 16.9 euro cents less than today's price lists, equal to a lower cost of 8.45 euros for a full tank, explains Adusbef. For diesel, Eni's fixed price will allow savings of 18.7 euro cents per litre, equal to a lower cost of 9.35 euros per tank.

Calculating the expense of a family with two cars, the savings could rise up to 17.80 euros per week, i.e. around 80 euros per month, estimates the Unimpresa Study Center, which also extends the calculations to small businesses that work with vans and light commercial vehicles: for them the savings range from 12 to 37 euros per week net of VAT, i.e. from 50 to 160 euros per month; for a fleet of ten vans the benefit reaches 245 euros per week and over 3,300 euros until the end of the year.

The savings will obviously be higher in those areas of Italy where the average list prices at the pump are higher than the national average, observes Adusbef: for example in Bolzano, where diesel fuel currently costs 2,428 euros per litre, the saving on a full tank of diesel will be almost 12 euros (11.9 euros to be precise), 10.5 euros on a full tank of petrol. This is followed by Valle d'Aosta, which today boasts an average diesel price of 2.404 euros per liter and where the lowest cost will be on average 10.7 euros per tank; and Friuli with -10.5 euros (2.4 euros/litre the average price of diesel). For petrol, however, the greatest savings, in addition to Bolzano, will be found in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Calabria, on average -9.6 euros per tank.

The situation "remains very critical", warns the research office of the CGIA of Mestre (Venice), while welcoming Eni's discount "with satisfaction". Compared to last February 27, the day before the outbreak of the war between the USA and Iran, the Venetian artisans observe, "those who fill up in the next few days at Eni petrol stations will still pay 19.2% more for petrol and 27.3% more for diesel".
