Projections that arouse indignation. Racist, LGBTphobic and misogynistic comments made by a municipal police officer in Carcassonne (Aude), until then a member of the security service of the National Rally (RN), were revealed on Tuesday September 8 by the regional daily Midi libre. Held during a police patrol in November 2025, they had been recorded by this police officer's body-worn camera, without him realizing it. On November 6, 2025, a municipal police officer from Carcassonne took part in a patrol with three of his colleagues, reports Midi libre. This 50-year-old former soldier tries out his body-worn camera at the start of his service, a box topped with a small lens worn by police officers and gendarmes who can activate and deactivate it at their discretion, when they fear an "incident" or want to note an infraction, details the law of June 3, 2016. But while he thinks he has deactivated it, the camera actually continues to run, and records the six hours of exchanges between police officers that will follow.
In the images, "racist, misogynistic, conspiratorial or even putschist remarks, some relating to the Penal Code" are made, largely by the chief brigadier but not only, details the regional daily, which broadcasts several extracts from the recording. "They drive fast, these buggers, eh? Yesterday, they were on a camel, today a car...", we can, for example, hear the chief brigadier say. âI can't take it anymore, in the city center, of the bicot, of the nigger, of the nigger, of the bicot, of the AfghanâŠâ, he also says. Twice, non-white people are called âmonkeysâ.
We also hear the police defending the torturers during the Algerian war, before one of them calls for "a coup d'Ă©tat, a dictatorship in France". The brigadier-chief also begins to dream that âthe Russians are coming for five or six yearsâ in order to âkill the idiotsâ and âpillify Macron and all the fagsâ.
He also makes comments on the transphobic conspiracy theory according to which Brigitte Macron is a transgender person. âWe are trying to hide this from the whole world,â he says, while the relaying of this false information on social networks has already resulted in criminal convictions for several people. More generally, he makes degrading remarks about women, assimilated to âchicksâ or âcuntsâ.
At the end of 2025, these images circulated within the police station, leading to the filing of a complaint for "intrusion into privacy" by the chief brigadier, then the opening of a preliminary investigation by the Carcassonne public prosecutor's office, reports Midi libre. For its part, the Carcassonne town hall assures that "the individual camera from which these images came was stolen, raising serious questions as to the conditions in which these videos were then recovered and broadcast".
Justice confirmed to AFP on Wednesday that it had taken up the case, without specifying the opening date of the investigation. Asked by franceinfo, the public prosecutor, GĂ©raldine Labialle, did not confirm the filing of a prior complaint by the police officer.
In addition to his duties within the municipal police, the chief brigadier that we hear in the video is also involved with the National Rally. In February, he participated in ordering a trip to Carcassonne by the president of the far-right party, Jordan Bardella, according to AFP photos. The day after the publication of the Midi Libre article, the RN announced to France Télévisions that it had excluded him "from the party and from all his voluntary functions, particularly within the security service".
âWe cannot tolerate this,â reacted to AFP Louis Aliot, RN mayor of Perpignan (PyrĂ©nĂ©es-Orientales) and vice-president of the party. âThese people are dangerous irresponsible people. They cast suspicion on the entire municipal police force. This is obviously an isolated case,â he assured, although the chief brigadier was not the only one to make racist remarks in the video.
At the start of Wednesday afternoon, the RN mayor of Carcassonne held a press briefing during which he denounced "scandalous, disgusting remarks". âAll the protagonists have been suspended,â announced Christophe BarthĂšs.
Elected during the municipal elections in March, the councilor maintains his line of defense: he was not aware of the existence of a judicial investigation into this affair, opened before taking office. He denounces âa desire to harm the new municipal teamâ. âWe have hired a project manager (...) to reorganize the municipal police in Carcassonne,â he also promised.
The Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between women and men and the fight against discrimination, Aurore Bergé, denounced Wednesday on RMC "absolutely unacceptable" remarks, which according to her constitute a "crime", and regretted "a liberation of racist speech".
