Carla Zambelli participates in her mother's electoral campaign while awaiting extradition

The former Brazilian MP Carla Zambelli, waiting in Italy for the outcome of a new extradition proceeding requested by Brazil, actively participates in the electoral campaign of her mother Rita, candidate for the Chamber of Deputies in Sao Paulo. The 76-year-old herself reports this, explaining that her daughter contributes to decisions on the campaign, the production of content for social media and the recording of videos in support of the candidacy.

Rita Zambelli declared that she shares the same principles and values ​​with her daughter and admitted that her candidacy "may be" a way to avoid Carla's ineligibility.

Zambelli, sentenced to ten years for the invasion of the IT system of the National Council of Justice (Cnj) and five years and three months for having chased the left-wing activist Luan Araújo with a gun in Sao Paulo, fled to Italy in June 2025. After the rejection of the first extradition request presented by Brazil, a second one relating to the gun case remains open, which is expected to return to the Italian Court of Appeal starting from October, according to the newspaper Folha de São Paulo.
