Carlos Body recognizes delays in the normalization of Ceuta and defends economic measures

Act responsibly and convey realistic messages to the people of Ceuta. Nearly forty days have passed since the massive entry of immigrants to the autonomous city and the first vice president, Carlos Corpo, makes self-criticism in the face of what he considers an "extraordinary" crisis due to its characteristics. "Every day that has not returned to normality prior to July 30 is a day that we are late," Corps said this Monday, within the framework of 'Los Desayunos' on RTVE and EFE.

The Government's 'number two' has defended that last week it was agreed by consensus with the city that the port would be at the disposal of the Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI). "When you talk to the citizens of Ceuta, the first message they convey is uncertainty and even fear," he acknowledged, immediately defending that the Executive is putting extraordinary resources on the table for a crisis that is also a crisis. For this reason, he believes that for Ceuta citizens the debate about whether the leadership of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, should have been "more or less public" is secondary.

In line with what was expressed by the head of the Executive, Corps has stressed that "there is no reliable evidence" that implies "authorship of the Government of Morocco with respect to the massive entry on July 30", which "does not mean" that it continues to be investigated, and has opted to maintain "enormous prudence" in this matter. The Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business has also emphasized the economic weight of the bilateral relationship and has recalled that Spanish exports to Morocco amounted to more than 12,000 million euros last year, a figure that he compared with the more than 16,000 million that Spanish sales reached to the United States to highlight their value.

The 'number two' of the Executive has also defended the economic measures that were approved just a few days ago in the Council of Ministers and that entail, among other things, a package of 80 million euros intended for companies and the self-employed for the recovery of the Ceuta economy.

In economic matters, Body has advanced that the GDP would be growing at 0.6% in the third quarter, which allows the Government to maintain the calculation published in June which contemplated an increase in activity of 2.6% for the year as a whole, with consumption and investment as the main drivers. These figures will serve, in principle, as the basis for the 2027 General State Budgets on which "contacts" with parliamentary groups will begin this month to try to reach agreements.
