Car overturns and falls into river at the end of Avenida Litorânea, in Greater São Luís

According to witnesses, six people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The driver and two young women were taken to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA). There were no reports of serious injuries.

The accident happened on a curve in a section of Avenida Litorânea that has not yet been opened by the Government of Maranhão. As a result of the impact, the vehicle overturned and was partially submerged in the water.

According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the steering wheel when passing through the curve that leads to the Araçagy neighborhood. The Maranhão Military Police (PM-MA) was on site to ensure the safety of the area and prevent further accidents.

On Sunday morning (8), the car still remained at the scene of the accident. To g1, the Maranhão Military Fire Department (CBMMA) reported that it was called to respond to the incident, but, upon arriving at the scene, it did not find any of the occupants, just the vehicle.

Witnesses reported that the stretch of avenue does not have adequate signage or protective structures to warn drivers about the risks on the road. According to reports, the situation is even more dangerous at night, due to the lack of lighting.

The exact circumstances of the accident have not yet been clarified. Until the last update of this report, there was no detailed information about the health status of the people sent to the UPA nor a forecast for removing the vehicle from the water.
