Cars are swept away by a flood of mud after walls collapse in a garage in Chapecó

Two walls collapsed this Friday (11) in Chapecó and hit the garage of a residential building. There were no injuries.

Security cameras recorded the flood of water and mud invading the place.

It is possible to see the moment when the force of the water swept away the parked cars.

Manager reported that the structures belong to two neighboring buildings under construction.

Civil Defense isolated the location. Around 15 vehicles were in the space, and only 1 car remained under the metal structure that collapsed.

Two walls collapsed this Friday morning (11) in Chapecó, in the west of Santa Catarina, and hit the garage of a residential building. The case occurred around 8 am, in the Pinheirinho neighborhood, during heavy rain.

Security cameras recorded the moment the structures gave way, flooding the garage with water and mud. The force of the flood swept away parked cars. Nobody was injured.

To g1, the condominium manager, Ivan Breitenbach, reported that he was near the garage when he heard the sound of the collapse.

"We heard a big bang, we even thought it was lightning, but then we went outside and checked and it was the wall that had broken, it had burst and fallen," he said.

Breitenbach explained that the walls belong to two neighboring buildings that are under construction, located on a level above the residential building. Civil Defense was called and isolated the place.

Around 15 vehicles were in the garage at the time of the collapse. Only one car was trapped under the metal roof, which gave way upon impact.

Storms and hail hit other cities in the West and Midwest of Santa Catarina between Thursday night (10) and Friday morning (11). The rain caused flooding and damage to houses in other cities in the region besides Chapecó.
