Chairman Kim Tae-nyeon's first press conference... “Strong action to designate semiconductor special zone”
(Suwon = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Jong-ho = The 'Fairness, Innovation, and Inclusive Gyeonggi Preparation Committee', which is the gubernatorial transition committee of Gyeonggi Governor-elect Choo Mi-ae, announced on the 18th that it requested the government to convert Gyeonggi Province, a Buddhist ministry organization to which the state does not currently pay local grants, into a grant organization.
On the fourth day since its launch, the transition committee held its first press conference at the Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation, where its office is located.
At the meeting, Chairman Kim Tae-nyeon said, "Gyeonggi-do's financial situation is a little worse than expected," and added, "I understand that President-elect Choo has taken this into account and requested the central government to exclude Gyeonggi-do from the Buddhist ministry group."
When asked why the financial situation was poor, he said, "Acquisition tax and registration tax account for almost half of the revenue of metropolitan local governments, but the key is that the real estate market is currently down, so there is a problem with revenue."
Regarding the background of forming a mammoth transition committee with about 40 members of the National Assembly, he explained, "Gyeonggi-do is a place where administrative needs are at a national level, and various areas such as regulation, transportation, care, and housing must be resolved through cooperation with the government or revision of laws." He added, "The great political asset that Gyeonggi-do has is the large number of National Assembly members, and we will use this power for Gyeonggi-do administration."
Regarding the enforcement ordinance of the Special Semiconductor Act, which excludes the metropolitan area from the designation of semiconductor clusters, he said, "I am in favor of expanding the investment of resources in non-metropolitan areas in terms of balanced national growth, but semiconductors are a battle of speed and competition between countries, so building an ecosystem is more important than any other industry."
When asked about his position on the ballot paper shortage that occurred during the June 3 local elections and the resulting blockade protest at the Jamsil poll counting center, he replied, "From a member of the National Assembly's point of view, it is something that the National Election Commission has made a major mistake and I believe that a major reform is needed. However, the current blockade protest seems to have deteriorated significantly, with slogans like 'communists' being used."
Since its inauguration on the 15th, the transition committee is currently receiving work reports from the Gyeonggi Provincial Office and Bureau, and has held two plenary meetings until today to discuss the direction of provincial government.
Chairman Kim said, "The name of our committee, Preparatory Committee rather than Transition Committee, is an expression of our will to respect the achievements made by Governor Kim Dong-yeon and the continuity of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, and to add President-elect Choo's new vision on top of them." He added, "We will do our best to ensure that the 9th popularly elected provincial government can move in the direction of inclusiveness by incorporating innovation fairly."
