The Engels district court sentenced a man to two years in a penal colony for beating a special operation veteran in an educational institution, the prosecutor's office of the Saratov region reports.

In February 2025, the prosecutor's office reported that at an educational institution in Engels, a 47-year-old local resident started a conflict with a disabled veteran of military operations in Syria and Donbass and beat him in front of children and teachers. The police opened a criminal case for hooliganism and detained the suspect. The victim was hospitalized.

“At the court hearing, the defendant did not admit guilt, claiming that he acted within the limits of necessary defense. The court sentenced the perpetrator to 2 years of imprisonment to be served in a penal colony. In addition, the civil claim of the victim to recover compensation for moral damage in the amount of 400 thousand rubles was satisfied,” the supervisory agency’s channel on the Max platform stated.
