Serkan Arman - Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said that the terrorism-free Türkiye process has started a new era in terms of regional development and private sector investments. Yılmaz addressed the business world gathered in Elazığ for the 27th Business World Summit of the Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED).

Stating that the human cost of terrorism cannot be calculated, Yılmaz said that the economic cost has reached at least 2.3 trillion dollars, including direct, indirect and alternative costs. Stating that security problems limit private sector investments, especially in the East and Southeast, Yılmaz said, "Where there is no security, the investment environment deteriorates, investments and trade do not develop as much as you want."

Opportunity emphasis

Stating that one of the areas that will be most positively affected in the new period will be private sector investments, Yılmaz called on the business world to re-evaluate the opportunities in the East and Southeast. Citing the Sütaş investment in Bingöl as an example, Yılmaz said, "If you build a space base in Bingöl, it will not have as much impact as Sütaş. Because it uses local raw materials, uses local labor, and triggers development."

'Our direction does not change'

Stating that uncertainty has become the "new normal" in the global economy, Yılmaz noted that the impact of the Iran-US war on inflation and current account deficit is temporary. Yılmaz said, "If your program is correct, if you are going in the right direction, cyclical factors will have temporary effects. They will delay it a little, but they will not change the goal or direction of your program."

The problem in the capital market is in a limited area

Stating that the banking system is strong and the contingent liability originating from KKM has been zeroed, Yılmaz said that there is a problem arising in a "limited area" in the capital markets. Noting that administrative and judicial measures have been taken, Yılmaz said, "We are not facing a structural problem. The structure of our capital markets is quite healthy."

In his speech at the summit, TÜRKONFED President Süleyman Sönmez stated that maintaining production capacity is one of the most urgent topics for the economy and said that targeted and temporary supports should continue for businesses that export and invest. Sönmez stated that within the scope of the industrial migration plan to Anatolia, the "TOKİ building factories" model will play an important role in spreading the industry throughout the country and said, "For this reason, protecting production also means protecting social trust and resilience."

TÜSİAD President Ozan Diren also stated that Turkey has a strong industrial base and entrepreneurial and business culture, and said, "Of course, we know that this potential does not automatically turn into competitive advantage." Diren emphasized that for permanent success, reform and industrial policy should be put into effect and productivity and technological competence should be increased.

FIRATSİFED President Yasemin Açık pointed out the importance of turning to high value-added production and services and said, "A strong Türkiye is possible with strong regions."
