Widespread rain and cold front put São Paulo under attention

The Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE) placed the city on alert for flooding at 2:45 am. The alert ended at 5:09 am. Shortly afterwards, at 6:28 am, the agency reported that the rain continued in a widespread manner in Greater São Paulo, with an intensity of up to moderate.

The capital woke up with an average temperature of 16°C, and the maximum temperature predicted for this Tuesday is 24°C.

The forecast is for more rain throughout the day, with the possibility of thunderstorms, hail and gusts of wind that could exceed 60 km/h at times.

According to the CGE, a cold front is advancing towards the Southeast after causing heavy rain and winds in the southern states of the country. The system is reinforced by a moisture channel coming from the Central-North region, increasing the condition for widespread heavy rain.

As a result, there is potential for new flooding, river and stream overflows and tree falls.

The rain is expected to continue on Wednesday (23), including during the morning, and gradually decrease only towards the end of the night.

The temperature drops: the forecast is for a minimum of 13°C and a maximum of just 15°C. According to the CGE, the small temperature range should increase the feeling of cold during the day.

Power outage causes queues and affects boarding at Viracopos Airport. The lobby remained without power early this Tuesday morning (22). Passengers have been reporting problems since 4:30 am and flight panels are inoperative.
