Collapse of a poplar tree at the University of Cassino: two students injured

Two students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Cassino were injured by the collapse of a large poplar tree located right in front of the entrance to the university, in via Gaetano di Biasio.

The poplar fell on the road, occupying the entire roadway, just as the two university students were crossing, hitting them and trapping them under the branches. Traffic entering Cassino from Casilina was blocked, just before the junction for the Montecassino Abbey. The area is closed and closed to traffic with serious repercussions.

To reach the two students, the intervention of the Fire Brigade was necessary, who had to saw off the branches and create a way out. Both, a boy and a girl, were injured: they are currently in the emergency room of Cassino hospital. With them is the magnificent rector Marco Dell'Isola, waiting for the prognosis to be resolved "At the moment the priority is the kids and their health conditions. After we have been reassured we will take care of everything else". University Minister Anna Maria Bernini has already called the rector, making her facility available for any possible needs that may arise for the injured children.

Mayor Enzo Salera also arrived in via Di Biasio, together with the carabinieri, police and firefighters, closely following the rescue and safety operations. The investigations will have to ascertain what caused the poplar to fall, when checks on its state of health had been carried out.
