CSTO exercises in Russia address complex global military-political situation

MOSCOW, September 27. /TASS/. The relevance of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) joint exercises being held in Russia is due to the extremely complex military-political situation in the world, CSTO Joint Staff Chief and Hero of Russia Colonel General Andrey Serdyukov stated.

He noted that high-quality organization of joint operational and combat training, taking into account the experience of modern armed conflicts, as well as buildup of the combat potential of the CSTO Collective Forces by equipping them with modern weapons, military and special equipment (including drones, reconnaissance assets, and electronic warfare capabilities) and improving air defense organization are priority areas of activity during Russia’s CSTO chairmanship.

"This is relevant due to the extremely complex military-political situation in the world," Serdyukov emphasized.

According to him, the deterioration of international relations and the encroachment of "zones of instability" on the borders of CSTO member states are contributing to a rise in threats to military security.

"The continued deterioration of international relations, as well as the encroachment of 'zones of instability' onto our borders, are increasing challenges and threats to military security." The evolving situation requires us to promptly respond to changes in the nature and conduct of military operations. Guided by our priorities, we are improving the command and control components and units of the Collective Forces and enhancing their readiness for operations that closely simulate the real-world conditions of modern armed conflicts," the CSTO defense official said at the opening of the Interaction-2026 command-and-staff exercise, the Poisk-2026 special reconnaissance exercise, and the Echelon-2026 logistics support exercise taking place in Russia.
