President Erdoğan met with UN Secretary-General Guterres in New York

Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, had a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN building in New York, where he was present for the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations.

Regional and global issues were discussed at the meeting. Our President stated that they are working closely with Secretary General Guterres, who is nearing the end of his term, on many issues concerning global peace and security.

President Erdoğan stated that it has become clear once again that Israel does not want peace in Gaza, that settler terrorism in the West Bank and attacks on holy places in Jerusalem have worsened the situation, and that the basis for a two-state solution must be preserved.

Our President stated that tensions in Iran and Ukraine should be reduced, that we, as Türkiye, are making efforts to adhere to the diplomatic process, and that a process arising from within the region regarding the Hormuz issue could be beneficial.

Our President stated that we expect the parties to take a responsible attitude towards the safety of navigation in the Black Sea, and that Türkiye is disturbed by the targeting of merchant ships in the Black Sea.

During the meeting, our President said that any proposal that does not recognize the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people on the island will not yield results.

In addition to our President, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Turkey's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, Ambassador Mehmet Güllüoğlu and Presidential Agriculture and Food Policies Board Member Mehdi Eker were present at the meeting.
