Presidential Communications Director Duran: Access Blocked to 2034 Social Media Accounts

Presidency's Director of Communications Burhanettin Duran, in a post on his NSosyal account, stated that comprehensive digital tracking, technical analysis, and inter-institutional coordination efforts carried out under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications continue uninterrupted and in coordination with all relevant institutions.

Burhanettin Duran emphasized that Türkiye maintains its fight against terror propaganda, provocation, disinformation, and psychological operation attempts conducted through digital platforms with determination by mobilizing all the state's resources and capabilities.

In this context, noting that Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and the General Directorate of Security's Department of Combating Cybercrime have conducted joint work under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications over the past two months, Duran used the following expressions:

"Access blocking measures were immediately implemented against 699 social media accounts determined to be linked to terrorist and criminal organizations targeting our national security and social unity, primarily those affiliated with FETO. Furthermore, through comprehensive technical examinations and digital network analyses, necessary legal and administrative actions were established through the coordination of our relevant institutions, primarily our Ministries of Justice and Interior, regarding 1,335 social media accounts identified as generating provocation, targeting our brotherhood and social peace, spreading disinformation, and carrying out psychological operation activities against our country, and access blocking decisions were applied to the accounts in question. In this process, access blocks were imposed on a total of 2,034 social media accounts."

"We will continue to implement the necessary measures without delay"

Burhanettin Duran stated that the work carried out reveals that terrorist organizations now conduct activities in an organized, coordinated, and systematic manner not only in the field, but also on digital platforms.

Duran made the assessment: "Social media and digital platforms are used as tools targeting social peace, our national unity, and public order through propaganda, manipulation, perception operations, and disinformation. Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye continues its fight against terrorism with the same determination in the field, cross-border, and in the digital sphere. For our state, digital security is an indispensable part of national security. Terrorist organizations will strictly not be allowed to use social media and digital platforms for the purposes of propaganda, recruitment, financing, disinformation, and psychological operations."

Burhanettin Duran noted the following:

"As the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, together with all our relevant institutions, we will continue to monitor the digital ecosystem instantaneously and multidimensionally, identify all kinds of threats targeting our national security, social peace, and unity and solidarity, and implement the necessary measures without delay. We will maintain our struggle with the same determination to protect our citizens from the information pollution caused by disinformation, connect them with accurate and reliable information, and prevent digital platforms from being transformed into a propaganda space by terrorist organizations. The digital space is not unowned. Türkiye will not allow any digital operation targeting its national security."
