Bicycle shop in Nässjö is forced to close due to the municipality's procurement of preferential bicycles

Another reason, according to Gärdeborg, why the store is forced to close is Nässjö municipality's procurement of preferential bicycles - which went to a bicycle company in Norrköping.

Göran Gärdeborg is critical of how the procurement was done and believes that it does not benefit the residents of Nässjö.

But according to Nässjö municipality's procurement manager Peter Lindberg, it was simply another company that was judged to be economically most advantageous.

- This procurement had an evaluation model where tenders are evaluated based on two criteria, administration & ordering process. Scoring was based on a pre-established scoring scale. After an evaluation, it turned out that the tender from the Norrköping company was the tender with the highest total score, he tells SVT.

The cycle reduction has stopped

In recent years, cycling in the country seems to have stabilised, albeit at a lower level, according to the authority Trafikanalys.

- According to the travel habit surveys, we saw a large decline around the turn of the millennium in the number of trips by bicycle, which mainly concerned young people, but the level has been significantly more stable since then, says statistician Andreas Holmström.
