Despite the strained Sino-Japanese relations, the historically low yen and the low competition rate for Japanese university entrance exams are increasing the number of Chinese students entering prestigious Japanese universities. An entrance exam academy for Chinese students studying abroad in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo produced 55 students who passed the University of Tokyo entrance exam for the 2026 school year, and the current number of students, including online, reaches 3,000. The number of Chinese international students is on the rise again after hitting a low of 103,882 in 2022 after the decline in COVID-19, and China is still the country sending the largest number of international students to Japan. China's fierce competition for entrance exams (12.9 million Gaokao applicants) is serving as a major reason for the increase in studying abroad in Japan.

According to an audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection, 47 dance professors from 32 universities across the country were found to have participated in the practical evaluation of students at art high schools where they had taught within the past three years, but instead acted as evaluation committee members for entrance exams for 19 universities in the metropolitan area without reporting this. Some teachers gave the highest scores to students they taught, and many cases of arts high school instructors concurrently serving as academy instructors were confirmed, raising concerns about fairness.
