Trump criticizes Spain over immigration and describes it as "going bankrupt"

In a post on the Truth Social website, Trump wrote: “It is very sad what is happening in Spain, a country that has no control over its borders.”

A day ago, Trump directed sharp criticism at Spain. In an interview with the British channel GB News, he described the influx of crowds of migrants into the city of Ceuta at the end of last July as an “invasion of a country,” considering that what happened at the Ceuta border reflects a failure to manage the immigration file, and added that Spain “will become a bankrupt country.”

Earlier this month, Ceuta and several Spanish cities witnessed massive protests in which hundreds of thousands of citizens participated, demanding that the government of Pedro Sanchez take measures against illegal immigration, against the backdrop of the influx of immigrants to Ceuta.

The events in Ceuta sparked great concern in Europe, as a number of European Union officials criticized Spain's immigration policy. On Friday, authorities in several European Union member states, including Italy, the Czech Republic, Finland and Denmark, called for Spain's membership in the Schengen Area to be temporarily suspended.
