Let the world see Hengchun! Peninsula World Music Festival "Song and Dance Show" cross-border performance

Coinciding with the Double Tenth consecutive holiday, the 2026 Peninsula World Music Festival will usher in the highlight tonight "Peninsula Song and Dance Show", with golden song singer Dai Xiaojun and the exotic band, Israeli duo SHIRAN & BAKAL, North Indian Dance Theater, performed relay performances with folk artists from Hengchun and Manzhou and local dance troupes. Crowds filled the West Gate Square of Hengchun. Pingtung County Magistrate Zhou Chunmi also came to the scene to join the chorus of "Four Scenes of Hengchun" and "Three Scenes of Manzhou" with the children of Hengchun Elementary School.

"This is the most precious thing about the Peninsula World Music Festival!" Zhou Chunmi said. The Peninsula World Music Festival has entered its fourth year. This year, the scale has been upgraded. On the 9th and 10th, 14 domestic and overseas teams from 8 countries were invited to the Hengchun Peninsula for two consecutive days to exchange and perform on the same stage. From music and dance to local ballads, old tunes and new sounds intermingled and collided. Folk songs, music and dances from different countries met on the peninsula. This event, which originated from folk songs that have been sung for hundreds of years in Hengchun and Manzhou, communicated with musicians from all over the world, allowing the world to see the unique vitality of folk songs on the Hengchun Peninsula.

On the first day of the World Stage, tropical reggae, Hakka rock, and aboriginal electronic music led the audience to sway; today there was music and dance from France, Canada and other places, and the finale, Japan’s Folk Crusaders, concluded with a cross-border performance that blended Latin and Japanese ballads.

In addition to the international collision on the main stage, the "Goose Ballad Rhapsody" on the Peninsula Stage brought another kind of joy. "Goose folk song" is the homophonic pronunciation of "xue folk song" in Taiwanese. The participating teams put on funny goose heads and ballet costumes to dance, which was full of cuteness. Zhou Chunmi also joined the "goose flock" to swing with the public, and laughter and singing came one after another. The "Grandma Comes to Sing" folk song special performance was led by senior artists from the Hengchun Folk Song Promotion Association and the Manzhou Folk Song Association. Their rich and vigorous voices were paired with the sound of the yueqin, and the profound folk heritage accumulated over the years was sung word by word, which became the most touching scene of the entire song festival.

The Cultural Affairs Department said that the "Hengchun Peninsula Folk Song National Competition" will be held from October 15th to 17th, and the "Folk Ballad Forum" will be held on October 24th and 25th, moving from local inheritance to international exchanges and continuing to expand the cultural landscape of peninsula folk songs.
