MOSCOW, September 23 - RIA Novosti. An “unusual cold” without fever can be caused by known respiratory infections, Murad Shakhmardanov, a professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University, told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, information appeared in the media that Russians are faced with an “unusual cold”, which differs from the usual ARVI or flu. It is clarified that people are massively complaining of weakness in the absence of fever, severe sore throat and dry cough.

"What people describe as an 'unusual cold' is most likely explained by the natural diversity of already known respiratory viruses. The most likely 'culprit' of the described clinical picture is a rhinovirus," Shakhmardanov said.

He clarified that the clinical picture of rhinovirus infection includes a severe runny nose, sore throat, cough and low or no fever.

According to him, the same clinical picture can also be caused by coronaviruses, metapneumovirus, adenoviruses and bocaviruses. However, temperature is not a mandatory sign of the disease.
