Daniel Levy, former Tottenham executive chairman, has expressed his shock at the team’s current Premier League relegation battle, stating that during his 25-year tenure, “relegation was not something we ever considered.” Despite overseeing the construction of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the team reaching the 2019 Champions League final, the only trophies won under his leadership were the 2008 League Cup and last season’s Europa League.

Levy, who was recently appointed a CBE for his services to charity and the community, shared his feelings of “emptiness” regarding the team’s league position but remained “optimistic that we will remain in the Premier League.” When asked if he anticipated the club’s current relegation struggle, he emphatically replied, “Never, no, not in a million years.”

Tottenham currently sits two points above third-bottom West Ham with two games remaining, having secured eight points from their last 12 matches.

Reflecting on his time, Levy acknowledged, “What I would have hoped for is winning the Premier League, winning the Champions League… easier said than done.”
