US military Taifeng system withdraws from Kagoshima and will be stored at Kadena base in Okinawa

(Central News Agency, Tokyo, 13th, comprehensive foreign news reports) Japan's Kyodo News reported today that the US military's medium-range missile launch system Typhon (also translated as Typhon), which has been temporarily deployed at the Maritime Self-Defense Force's Kagoya Air Base in Kagoshima Prefecture's Kagoya City since June, has been evacuated.

The report pointed out that the United States notified the Ministry of Defense on the 12th.

The Okinawa Defense Bureau of the Ministry of Defense announced on its official website in September that the evacuated Taifeng missile system was planned to be stored at the US military's Kadena base.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Taifeng can carry the long-range cruise missile "Tomahawk". In conjunction with the multinational joint exercise "Valiant Shield" held from June to July this year, the Typhoon missile system was transported to Kanaya.

At that time, it was said that it would withdraw after the end of the Japan-US-Australia joint exercise "Orient Shield" in September. No live-fire training was conducted during this period.

Regarding the storage of the Taifeng missile system at the Kadena base, the United States stated that this does not mean its permanent deployment in Japan. After the storage plan was announced, the mayor of Kadena Town, Hiro Toyama, stated in September that "ignoring the feelings of residents must not be tolerated" and demanded that the plan be withdrawn.
