DEM Party Sources Allege Öcalan's Role in the Disarmament and Strategic Coordination Board

Following the Framework Law, it was announced that subcommittees would be established within the scope of the 'Terrorism-Free Türkiye' process.

While it was claimed that Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, would also take part in the Disarmament and Strategic Coordination Board, one of the commissions to be established, remarkable allegations came from DEM Party sources regarding the board and Öcalan's role.

According to the news on İlke TV, DEM Party sources said that Öcalan is expected to take part in the Disarmament and Strategic Coordination Board as a coordinator, not as a member, and to form a sub-coordination reporting to him.

While some politicians, political actors and Kurdish opinion leaders are expected to be included in the board to be formed by Öcalan, it was stated that there is no finalized list yet.

It is stated that the structure to be created will not be limited only to the technical dimension of disarmament, and that studies on the politicization process as well as disarmament will be carried out through this coordination.

CRITICAL STEP WILL BE TAKEN AT THE NSC TO BE HELD IN OCTOBER

According to the news based on DEM Party sources, the critical step in the process will be taken after the National Security Council meeting to be held in October.

It is aimed to continue practical work in the field until this meeting, to take an interim decision indicating the continuation of the process in October and to pave the way for the boards to become functional.

After reaching a certain stage in the work of the boards, it is among the expectations that the MGK will be called to a new meeting without waiting for the regular meeting schedule and that the "confirmation and determination" decision will be clarified and announced.

BAHÇELİ SUGGESTED 'PEACE COORDINATOR', WHICH AKP SAID 'COLD'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli took the 'status' debate about Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, one step further and proposed a 'Peace Coordination' mechanism.

The AKP government, on the other hand, emphasizes that 'the termination process should be completed with the confirmation of the disarmament' in the said process.

While the status debate was ongoing, a backstage report on the issue was published in the Türkiye newspaper, which is close to the government, and it was stated that the AKP said that the conditions in Imrali should be relaxed instead of giving Öcalan a legal status.

According to the news, the AKP was cold towards the proposal to grant legal status to Öcalan, and the AKP administration was of the opinion that it would not be possible to grant legal status to someone sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and that no privilege could be granted in this regard.
