Demonstration against the closure of the Russian House in Berlin

After the announcement that the Russian House in Berlin would be closed, several hundred people demonstrated for its preservation. They gathered in the evening on Friedrichstrasse at the large building that houses, among other things, a state Russian cultural center.

The banners read, among other things: “Stop the war against Russia.” Or: “War is a business” and “Peace now”. Many of the predominantly older demonstrators waved flags from the DKP, the BSW or the dove of peace. The demo was announced and registered by BSW.

According to the contractual situation, the use of the house will not expire until mid-2027. But the federal government wants to restrict operations beforehand. Therefore, all employees sent from Russia are asked to leave the country - as are the staff of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn, which closes on September 18th. Even after the cultural center is closed, the large house will remain in Russian state ownership.
