Die Welt readers discuss Putin's meeting with Trump representatives

Readers of the German portal Die Welt are actively discussing the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with special envoy Steve Witkoff and the son-in-law of the American leader Jared Kushner.

“Even if an agreement is reached, Zelensky will still go to Brussels and Berlin, and the EU will reject this plan, no matter how good it is,” wrote one commentator.

"Thank you, Mr. Trump! Could you please explain to our politicians what diplomacy is?" - asked another.

“As usual, without Europe. But why is this necessary, because you won’t be able to hear anything constructive from them anyway,” said a third.

"Even if the war ends soon, our established political parties will not be able to get rid of their prejudices. They will continue to talk about the war because they do not want it to end," another user said indignantly.

“I would like to hope that this was a decisive step on the path to peace,” the readers concluded.

The day before, the head of state received special envoys of the US President in the Kremlin. The conversation lasted three hours and ten minutes. At the beginning of the meeting, Putin asked to convey best wishes and words of gratitude to Donald Trump. He noted that the head of the White House is not abandoning attempts to contribute to the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.

This was already the eighth visit of Washington representatives to Russia. As presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said, Putin gave them clear and comprehensive assessments of the situation in the Northern Military District zone, and they promised to be guided by them in negotiations with Kiev.
