Dilek Kalkan's Bones Found, 2 Suspects Arrested

A human skull, various bone fragments, clothes and belongings were found in and around the stream bed where the water level receded on July 29, 2014, in the Pamukçayı location of Tatlıçayır District of Bismil district.

In the examination carried out at the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute, it was determined that the bones belonged to a woman between the ages of 17-23. Since his identity and the suspects could not be determined, a permanent search warrant was issued on February 13, 2015. Following the establishment of the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department within the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, the file was re-examined.

In the research conducted on 144 women between the ages of 19-23 who were sought as missing in Diyarbakır and surrounding provinces, it was determined that Dilek Kalkan, the daughter of Şağı and Naif Kalkan couple, went missing in May 2013. In the DNA analysis conducted upon the similarities between the clothes at the scene and the clothes Kalkan was wearing when she disappeared, it was determined that the bones belonged to Dilek Kalkan and were 99.99 percent compatible with her mother Şağı Kalkan.

HTS RECORDS WERE REVIEWED

Within the scope of the investigation, HTS records of 2 GSM lines that Dilek Kalkan was considered to have used were examined. Kalkan's works include Cuma Kaplan, Muhyettin Baranlı, S.K., E.K. and H.A. It was determined that he was in intense communication with and. In the statements of witnesses and knowledgeable people, information was obtained that there was an emotional relationship between Dilek Kalkan and Cuma Kaplan and that Kalkan was pregnant by Kaplan. In her health records, it was determined that Dilek Kalkan was diagnosed as 'pregnant' on May 21, 2013.

In the narrow base studies conducted by the expert, it was determined that the phones used by some suspects gave signals from the area where Dilek Kalkan's bones were found and their relatives on different dates.

7 SUSPECTS WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Cuma Kaplan, Muhyettin Baranlı, S.K., E.K., H.K., H.A. and F.B., who were considered to be linked to the death of Dilek Kalkan as a result of the evaluation of HTS records, analyses, Forensic Medicine reports, hospital records, witness statements and other evidence, were detained in an operation carried out by Diyarbakır JASAT teams on September 11, upon the instructions of the Bismil Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

2 SUSPECTS WERE ARRESTED

Cuma Kaplan and Muhyettin Baranlı, who were referred to the courthouse for the crime of 'intentional murder against a woman', were referred to the judgeship with a request for arrest on the grounds of the evidence status in the file, statements, HTS analyzes and strong suspicion that the crime was committed. 2 suspects were arrested by the judgeship. The other suspects were released under judicial control.
