Discussions mark a session at the STF with clashes between ministers

At different times, disagreements about the actions of the PF and even about the conduct of the session itself provoked discussions among the members of the Court.

Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça took part in one of the clashes. During the discussion, Moraes repeatedly questioned “who is afraid of the Federal Police?” and accused Mendonça of having approached the PF to ask that a colleague be included in an award-winning collaboration. Moraes also stated that he had witnesses who could confirm his version and suggested that they be called. Mendonça denied the accusations and classified the statements as “lies”.

The discussion intensified when Moraes said that Mendonça was “at the service of a political group that wanted to carry out a coup” in the country. Mendonça stated that he would respond to the accusations when he spoke.

Flávio Dino and the president of the STF, Edson Fachin, also had a moment of tension, this time because of the rules for speaking during the session. When trying to make an aside, Dino was interrupted by Fachin, who reminded that the floor should be requested from the Presidency. Dino responded by citing the Court's Internal Regulations and stated that he would follow these rules.

Later, the two exchanged comments again when Dino asked for permission to receive an aside. Fachin pointed out the irony in his colleague's speech, and Dino responded that the irony served to “relax the atmosphere”.
