Double start of forest fire near Dijon: ten hectares burned, one firefighter injured

Two forest fires broke out this Tuesday, September 29 in the afternoon, in Velars-sur-Ouche and especially in Plombières-lès-Dijon (Côte d'Or), where the fire continued to progress around 8 p.m. Around ten hectares have burned and homes, protected by firefighters, are threatened. A firefighter was injured.

Near Dijon, a double start of forest fire broke out this Tuesday, September 29 around 4:30 p.m. The Velars-sur-Ouche fire was set for around 6 p.m., but that of Plombières-lès-Dijon was still in progress. He continued his progress as night fell.

The fight against the fire will last all night

Around ten hectares went up in smoke, without causing any material damage so far. Homes are threatened, protected by firefighters. The fire is located in the area of ​​rue de Bonvaux and chemin de la Pérouse, in a steep area that is difficult to access.

Significant resources are being deployed on site: more than 120 firefighters are now mobilized from all the surrounding barracks, as well as 28 engines. The goal was to extinguish the fire before nightfall. This objective will not be met.

The fire broke out near the railway tracks, on the Dijon-Paris line. SNCF traffic is cut. 2 TGVs are blocked at Venarey-les-Laumes and Blaisy-Bas stations.

The geography of the area is steep, which is an additional difficulty for the firefighters. It's a place that has telephone infrastructure that firefighters are protecting.

A firefighter was injured during the intervention, indicates the Côte-d'Or prefecture in a press release sent this Tuesday evening. Residents are urged to be vigilant and avoid the area.

Already last July, a fire ravaged fifteen hectares of vegetation in the same sector of Plombières-lès-Dijon, at a place called Cité de la Flamme. Eighty-five firefighters and 32 engines were then deployed to put out the flames.

The Velars fire is now fixed and has burned 3 hectares. The fire is located at a place called La Verrerie.

Four “medium forest fire” tankers are involved, a “Super forest fire” tanker truck, an ambulance and command resources, i.e. 30 firefighters coming from the emergency centers of Dijon Est, Dijon Nord, Dijon Transvaal, Gevrey-Chambertin, Pouilly-en-Auxois, Val de Norges.
