World champion national gymnast Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı is preparing for the championship in Spain

24-year-old Ayşe Begüm Corporal, who made Turkish sports history by winning the gold medal at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championship held in Azerbaijan in 2021, took a break from sports in 2023.

Ayşe Begüm, who returned to gymnastics after a year with the support of her family and coaches and came first in the Aerobic Gymnastics Federation Cup in Ankara last month, was selected for the national team.

Ayşe Begüm, who will compete in the 19th Aerobic Gymnastics World Championship to be held in Spain between 13-15 September, continues her preparations with her coach Gürkan Er at Muradiye Sports Hall.

Ayşe Begüm, who has been on the championship podium before, wants to wave the Turkish flag again by training 6 days a week.

"I hope I will get good results in this world championship."

National gymnast Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı told the AA correspondent that she will compete in the individual category with her choreography with the theme "Our Mission is Impossible", and that this theme is related to her story of returning to sports after her decision to quit gymnastics in 2023. "I decided to quit gymnastics in 2023, and then I returned. My theme is 'Our Mission is Impossible', I competed with the same theme in the European Championship last year and we got good results. Now that I decided to come back, I competed with the same theme at the European Championships last year. It made sense for us to move forward on such a theme. 'Mission: Impossible', in fact, I started again on an impossible mission. This is where the main idea came from. When we come back, it makes sense for us to follow this theme. I hope I will get good results in this world championship." he said.

Pointing out that she had two strong rivals from Russia and Ukraine in the championship, Ayşe Begüm stated that competing with these athletes was important for them to see their own limits.

Emphasizing that she wants to regain the world championship she won in 2021, Ayşe Begüm said, "My main goal is not actually the gold medal. To show an Ayşe Begüm who has improved herself more than the Ayşe Begüm in 2021. It is a very different feeling to raise the Turkish flag and sing the National Anthem. I am very happy that I was able to experience this and I would love to experience it again." he said.
