MOSCOW, October 10 - RIA Novosti. Fraudsters call pensioners on behalf of the Social Fund of Russia and allegedly offer an increase to their pension, and under the pretext of obtaining it, they lure access codes to banking services, the press service of the Popular Front’s “Moshelovka” platform told RIA Novosti.
“Scammers call older citizens and members of their families, posing as employees of pension departments or the Social Fund of Russia. The victim is convinced that in order to “accrue an increase” or “receive a recalculation for previous periods,” it is necessary to urgently submit an electronic application through a robotic system,” experts said.
Next, the attackers convince the pensioner to dictate the verification code from the incoming SMS, supposedly to complete the application procedure. If this is done, then scammers can gain access to the State Services portal or debit funds from a bank account.
Moshelovka reminds that the state indexation of payments to pensioners is carried out automatically and does not require confirmation by phone.
“Real employees of departments and the Social Fund never request one-time passwords and access codes to the State Services portal,” experts pointed out.
