A girl in Sanchong, New Taipei City, was forced by her father and brother to hang up a cardboard with the words "thief" and "beast" written on it and parade her barefoot through the streets on a hot day because of her deviant behavior. This was a humiliating punishment. The girl's father was detained by the police for violating a domestic violence order, which also attracted attention from the outside world about parental discipline methods. Guo Cairong, director of the Protection Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, emphasized that there is zero tolerance for child abuse. Even if it is not beating or scolding, humiliating discipline will cause great harm to the child's personality. Even if parents think they are disciplining them, if they do so improperly, their children's self-esteem will still be damaged. According to the information currently known, the father's behavior has caused serious insult to the child's personality and can easily cause psychological shadow on the child. It is not clear that such punishment is directly related to the behavior he wants to correct.

Guo Cairong mentioned that because there are many types of protection orders, sometimes they only stipulate that the perpetrator shall not commit violence or harassment again, but do not necessarily require them to stay away. Therefore, even if there is a protection order, the victim and the perpetrator may still live together, and the actual situation must still be judged on a case-by-case basis. Guo Cairong pointed out that the father in this case is suspected of violating the protection order. After the police and prosecutors intervene in the investigation, they will evaluate whether to prosecute based on the investigation results; if it is determined after trial that the protection order has been violated, the maximum penalty is three years in prison.

Huang Ruiwen, section chief of the Protection Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, explained that the girl had suffered domestic violence in the past, and the Family Defense Center had assisted in applying for a protection order from the court and asked the father to participate in parent-child education courses. It also opened a case to regularly care about the child's condition, but the New Taipei Social Affairs Bureau has not yet provided the Ministry of Health and Welfare's detailed care situation and recent status.
