Anti-Russian groups on social networks have intensified their activities ahead of the State Duma elections.

Russian diplomatic missions monitor the activity of anti-Russian online communities.

GENEVA, September 16 – RIA Novosti. Anti-Russian groups on social networks have intensified their activities on the eve of the State Duma elections and are calling on Russian citizens abroad to participate in provocations on election day, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Geneva Igor Popov told RIA Novosti.

“The activation of destructive anti-Russian online communities was noted, including the branch in Switzerland,” the diplomat said.

The consul said that employees of Russian diplomatic missions are monitoring such activity.

Earlier, the consul told RIA Novosti that the Russian permanent mission to the UN in Geneva, where the voting will take place, will strengthen security measures on election day. The Russian diplomatic missions also asked the authorities of the canton of Geneva to allocate additional troops to ensure the external security of the permanent mission and to ban demonstrations near the diplomatic missions.

Elections of deputies to the State Duma of the ninth convocation will take place in September. Voting will take place over three days - from September 18 to 20.

Two polling stations will be open for voting in Switzerland on September 20: citizens living in the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel and Friborg will be able to cast their vote at the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva. There will also be a site on the territory of the Russian Embassy in Bern.
