The Democratic Party of Korea and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's party and government council discuss real estate supply measures and the use of Yongsan Park.

On the 19th, the Democratic Party of Korea held a party-government conference with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the National Assembly to discuss real estate supply measures.

Rep. Bok Ki-wang, a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee and a member of the ruling party's secretary-general, met with reporters after completing party-government consultations and made this statement.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok and other members of the National Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee from the Democratic Party attended the meeting.

At this meeting, there was also an exchange of opinions regarding the government's suggestion of using Yongsan Park for housing supply.

An attendee reported that Minister Kim explained at a party meeting held before the plenary meeting of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee that “we do not intend to develop the entire park.” It is reported that the lawmakers ordered, “We must actively respond to the false frame that housing is being supplied throughout the park.”

Representative Bok also met with reporters after the meeting and drew a line, saying, “Discussions on how to supply the entire Yongsan Park have not even started yet.”

In relation to this, Minister Kim also explained to the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee on this day, "We are not at all planning to build houses by pushing out the green space of the entire Yongsan Park," adding, "We will review whether there can be an alternative to providing limited housing in areas that are losing some of their functions as parks and green spaces."

Other attendees reported that Democratic Party members also emphasized that "it is important to speed up supply rather than additional supply measures" during the party's political party meeting. This can be interpreted to mean that it is important to quickly proceed with existing projects and release volumes into the actual market rather than announcing controversial new business sites.

Another attendee said, “Some people expressed regret that the real estate issue seems to be so buried in supply measures, or that they asked why they had to focus their fire on it.”

The party continued to criticize Mayor Oh, who is opposed to this, saying that the use of public land, including Yongsan Park, should be actively reviewed to speed up housing supply.

Regarding Mayor Oh's redevelopment and reconstruction policy, Rep. Kim Young-bae, chairman of the Democratic Party's Seoul City Party Committee, pointed out on MBC Radio that day, "Calling for the supply of redevelopment and reconstruction without an alternative for one- and two-person households, which account for 67% of Seoul's population structure, is nothing more than an argument that strengthens vested interests."

He revealed that he plans to meet with Mayor Oh in the near future and asked, "I hope that Mayor Oh will not continue to try to avoid crises with only political slogans, but will make a decisive decision for the sake of the citizens."

Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-joon also issued a comment and criticized Mayor Oh, saying, “What is urgent is a speed race to expand housing supply,” and “It is empty to talk about supply while leaving vacant land in the middle of the city as is.”

He then urged Mayor Oh, "Do not use citizens' housing stability as a political hostage," and "Respond to citizens' demands and take a forward-looking stance on housing supply plans using idle land."

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is considering conducting a party-level opinion poll regarding housing supply in Yongsan Park.

A party official said in a phone call with Yonhap News that day, "I think there is a need to take an overall view at the party level," and "We will look into the situation through opinion polls."
