Edgar Grospiron resigns from the presidency of the organizing committee for the 2030 Winter Olympics

Nineteen months of an unfinished adventure. Appointed president of the organizing committee for the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in February 2025, Edgar Grospiron announced his resignation this Thursday following an executive board meeting of Alpes 2030 in Décines. He navigated numerous crises and turbulence. The project progressed, but not as fast and not as far as it should have. It sometimes backtracked, struggling to make itself heard, to compromise, and to win over the multiple stakeholders of a poorly launched project.

It must be remembered that these Winter Olympics were awarded to France because Thomas Bach, the outgoing president of the International Olympic Committee, wanted to leave the house in order with the Games (summer and winter) awarded. Switzerland and Sweden had strong bids for the 2030 Winter Games, but France, not required to hold a referendum, offered other guarantees. So, as a preamble to the Paris 2024 Olympics, France completed the double: Summer Games–Winter Games.
