First Lady Erdoğan: Zero Waste Movement Extends to COP31 in its 9th Year

First Lady Erdoğan said, "With the declaration of March 30 as 'International Zero Waste Day' and the establishment of the UN Zero Waste High Level Advisory Board, which I chair, our country's experience has moved to different geographies. Now this 9-year experience extends to COP31 hosted by Türkiye." he said.

In her post on her social account, First Lady Erdoğan stated that they took steps 9 years ago with the intention of protecting the fertility of the soil, the value of water and the balance of nature.

"AN UNDERSTANDING THAT TOUCHES EVERY AREA OF LIFE"

Pointing out that the "Zero Waste" journey, which started in 2017, has today turned into a strong environmental mobilization that transcends borders, First Lady Erdoğan continued as follows:

"This change, which started with an idea, spread from homes to schools, from cities to international platforms. It became the voice of a common responsibility that echoed all over the world. Because Zero Waste is not only about what we throw away, but also about what we appreciate. It is an understanding that touches every aspect of life. The Zero Waste Decision, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2022 under the leadership of Türkiye, is the global turning point of this journey. The declaration and chairmanship of March 30 as 'International Zero Waste Day' "With the establishment of the UN Zero Waste High Level Advisory Board, which I chair, our country's experience has been transferred to different geographies. Now, this 9-year experience extends to COP31 hosted by Türkiye. Thus, I wholeheartedly believe that the Zero Waste approach will be adopted as one of the powerful tools of climate action."

First Lady Erdoğan noted that her greatest wish is to be able to leave a culture of life that respects nature to future generations, as well as a cleaner world.

First Lady Erdoğan wholeheartedly thanked everyone who shared this belief and increased it with their efforts, and congratulated the 9th anniversary of the Zero Waste Movement with her most sincere wishes.
