Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) reported that heavy rain and storms are expected throughout the city starting from this evening.
According to the statement made by AKOM, the Marmara Region will be affected by the cool and rainy weather coming from the Balkans. Stormy, lightning and occasionally strong thunderstorms are expected due to the cold upper level of the atmosphere and the hot ground level along with the northeastern region carrying the humid air of the Black Sea.
ATTENTION TO 19.00 AND AFTER
Today, it is expected that the rainfall, which will continue intermittently throughout the day, will increase its effect as of 19.00, and heavy showers will occur, especially on the European Side, the Bosphorus area, the northern regions and the Anatolian Side. As a result of the rains that will continue intermittently until 20:00 on Wednesday, 30 to 60 kilograms of precipitation per square meter is expected to fall across the province.
In northern districts such as Çatalca, Arnavutköy, Eyüpsultan, Sarıyer, Beykoz, Çekmeköy and Şile, a warning was made that the amount of precipitation could exceed 60 to 100 kilograms per square meter, and in some cases exceed 100 kilograms. The wind is expected to blow from the north intermittently throughout the week, in the form of a storm, at a speed of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour. It is estimated that the air temperatures, which are currently around 20 degrees with the strong wind, will drop to 15 degrees by the middle of the week.
PRECAUTIONS BEFORE RAIN HAVE INCREASED
IMM units have increased their precautions against the negativities that heavy rain and storms may bring. Cleaning of grates, grills and streams was completed before the rain. On-duty personnel were assigned outside working hours. Controls of rainwater pumps were carried out in underpasses below the elevation level, coastal squares and risky critical points.
AKOM asked citizens to be careful and cautious against the risks of storms and floods.
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE TODAY?
According to the latest evaluations made by the General Directorate of Meteorology, partly and very cloudy weather will prevail across the country.
It is estimated that Marmara (except Edirne), Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, Black Sea and Erzincan, Tunceli, Elazığ, Muş, Erzurum Kars and Ardahan regions will experience local showers and thunderstorms.
Rainfall is expected to be heavy in places in the Southern Aegean, Western Mediterranean, western Central Anatolia, around Istanbul, Kırşehir, Yozgat, Kırıkkale, Çorum and Bolu, as well as in the northern parts of Kocaeli and Balıkesir and in the eastern parts of Çanakkale.
Temperatures will decrease by 3 to 5 degrees in the Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean regions. It is estimated that there will be no significant changes in other places.
It is expected that the wind will generally blow from the south in the northern, southern and eastern parts, being light and occasionally moderate, and strong (40-60 km/h) from the north and northeast in the Marmara and Northern Aegean coasts.
MARMARA
It is estimated that it will be partly and very cloudy, with local showers and thunderstorms throughout the region (except Edirne). Rainfall is expected to be heavy in places around Istanbul, in the northern parts of Kocaeli and Balıkesir, and in the eastern parts of Çanakkale. It is estimated that the wind will blow strongly (40-60 Km/H) from the north and northeast directions.
Bursa, Çanakkale and Istanbul are 23 degrees.
Aegean
It is estimated that it will be partly and very cloudy, with local showers and thunderstorms throughout the region. Rain is expected to be heavy in places in the southern parts. It is estimated that the wind will blow strongly (40-60 Km/H) from the north and northeast directions on the Northern Aegean coast.
Izmir 24 degrees, Manisa 22 degrees, Uşak 20 degrees.
MEDITERRANEAN
It is estimated that it will be partly and very cloudy, with local showers and thunderstorms throughout the region. Rainfall is expected to be heavy in places in the Western Mediterranean.
