Trump envoys arrive in kyiv after meeting with Putin to promote peace negotiations

The envoys of Donald Trump, his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and businessman Steve Witkoff arrived in kyiv this Sunday, hours after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the aim of giving a boost to talks to find a solution to the conflict.

Their visit to the Ukrainian capital, the first of both after the start of Trump's second term in January 2025, coincides with an increase in missile and drone attacks by both sides.

In a message on the Telegram network, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who received Trump's emissaries personally at the kyiv railway station accompanied by the Ukrainian negotiating team, stated that his country is ready for a "constructive" conversation.

“We are interested in bringing the end of the war closer,” the president wrote. "Security guarantees are needed. A regional peace is needed in the post-war period. It is important to work in a coordinated, substantive and realistic manner," he added.

Both Putin and Zelensky have ordered the suspension of attacks against Moscow and kyiv until Monday, due to the presence of American emissaries.

On Saturday, when receiving Kushner and Witkoff, Putin, who opted years ago to distance Washington from Ukraine while sowing dissent in Europe with sabotage, praised the American leadership. “I understand that [President Trump] is facing a difficult situation overall, but he continues to make efforts to resolve and contribute to the resolution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.
