Escalation of hostilities between Iran and the United States after deadly strikes

The war escalation, underway since this weekend, has not subsided between Tehran and Washington. Iran carried out a major response in the Middle East on Wednesday and vowed to “break” the American enemy after a night of deadly bombings on its soil.

These strikes in Iran left 19 dead, including seven members of the armed forces but also civilians. Hostilities resumed on Sunday, ending a month of calm, in a scenario that has been repeated since the start of the war unleashed at the end of February and still without a diplomatic outcome.

New threats from Donald Trump

“Last night we destroyed more than just their radar. The attack was very violent, and we are ready to launch another at any time,” Donald Trump warned on Wednesday. In retaliation, the Iranian armed forces claimed all-out strikes against US allies in the region – Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, United Arab Emirates. Consequence: oil prices jumped again, with Brent crossing the $90 threshold.

“American forces struck targets of the Revolutionary Guard Corps,” Tehran’s powerful ideological army, announced the American Middle East Command (CENTCOM). Iranian state media gave a toll of at least 11 deaths: four during a wedding in the Sirik district (southeast), where nearly 70 people were injured, and seven in the Khuzestan region (west). The Guards also announced four deaths in their ranks, as well as four in the Basij paramilitary branch.

The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, called the United States “Satan” after the wedding attack, also recalling the bombing of a school in Minab which killed 155 people, including 120 children, in the early hours of the war. The American army did not react to the strike which hit the wedding, but affirmed “never targeting civilians, unlike the Guardians”. The spokesperson for Iranian diplomacy, Esmaïl Baghaï, for his part denounced a “war crime”.

The Strait of Hormuz soon to be the “Trump Strait”?

Above all, Iran warned the United States that they should now expect a “new strategy” intended to “break the foundations” of the enemy, without detailing its contours. He also sent a new warning to “any country cooperating with the aggressive American army”.
