Etna, Catania airport reopens after the eruption

Catania airport is back in operation with the reopening of the C1 and B3 airspaces which had been closed due to the ongoing eruption of Etna. This was communicated by SAC, the company that manages the airport, announcing that "departing and arriving flight activities have been restored with immediate effect" and inviting passengers to "check the status of their flight with the airlines".

The emission of ash continues from the summit craters of the volcano, but in a weaker manner, while the 'tremor' that signals the rising energy of the magma in the internal conduits of the volcanic building is rising and oscillates at medium values. The ongoing activity has caused the INGV Etna Observatory of Catania to issue a new flight warning, the Vona (Volcano observatory notice for aviation), which has decreased from red to orange, the third level of alert on a scale of four.
