Deputy mayor election has started in Eyüpsultan Municipality

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen was arrested and suspended from duty. After Özmen's arrest, the municipal council convened at 14:00 to determine the deputy mayor. It was learned that 37 council members will vote in the election. There are 23 members of the CHP and 14 members of the People's Alliance in the Eyüpsultan Municipal Council. In the election in which CHP's candidate Cafer Parlak and AK Party's candidate Muhammet Çakır will compete, the new deputy chairman will be determined after the voting. While only municipal council members were allowed into the hall where the election would be held, extensive security measures were taken around the building.

Within the scope of the investigations initiated against them, Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen and Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Murat Güneş were arrested and suspended from duty. Istanbul Governorship had announced that the deputy mayor election in both districts would be held on October 10. The Deputy Mayor election was held in Ataşehir Municipality this morning, the candidate of the People's Alliance, Serdar Orhan, was elected as the deputy mayor and the municipality passed to the AK Party.
