Gazprom resumed gas supplies to China after repairs at the Power of Siberia

Planned repairs on the Power of Siberia gas pipeline from Russia to China have been completed, after which gas supplies have been resumed. Gazprom reports this.

The work lasted from September 15 to 22. In accordance with the gas purchase and sale agreement along the “eastern” route between Gazprom and CNPC, preventive maintenance is carried out in the spring and autumn.

Preventative work is currently ongoing on the gas pipeline through which natural gas is supplied from Russia to Armenia. They should end on September 25.

Earlier, the Chinese South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31 in Bishkek at the SCO summit did not allow progress to be made in negotiations on the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline.

The project, which the Russian side has already renamed “The Power of Baikal,” is experiencing difficulties due to the commercial component. In Beijing, they would like to buy gas at $50 per thousand cubic meters, that is, the tariff for individuals, or at least at $120-130, which is the domestic commercial tariff. However, such a contract would be unprofitable for Moscow, because domestic gas prices are traditionally subsidized by exports.
