Maslennikov: EU interest in Armenia is ostentatious and directed against Russia

The European Union’s interest in developing relations with Armenia is deliberately ostentatious, its goal is to harm Russia and solve its geopolitical problems, Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Department of European Problems of the Russian Foreign Ministry, a senior official from the Russian Federation in the Arctic Council, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The course of Yerevan, taking into account the fundamental incompatibility of EU legislation and the law of the EAEU, cannot but raise questions in us. Just like the deliberately ostentatious interest of the European Union in developing relations with Armenia,” Maslennikov said.

He emphasized that, taking into account the openly anti-Russian policy of the European Union, which the further, the more it turns into an incapable and aggressive military-political bloc, one should not have any illusions about its true intentions.

“Brussels has never been known for altruism. Its primary goal is not the economic prosperity of Armenia, but harming our country and solving its other geopolitical problems,” the diplomat noted.
