Left-wing party takes time out after suspicions of electoral fraud in Dalarna

The suspicions of election fraud in Dalarna were discovered earlier this week. Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, who is connected to the investigation, has taken a "time out" in consultation with the party.

- It is because it is about serious accusations, says Vänstern's party secretary Maria Forsberg to DN.

However, he will not leave his seat in the Riksdag right now, she announces. What will happen in the future is not yet clear.

- It remains to be seen what the investigation says. I will not go into anything from the conversations with him, says Maria Forsberg.

Mohamed Abdukardir Ali is not suspected of any crime and denies the information.

Prosecutor Oskar Edvardsson tells TT that no one has been served with suspicion in the case. According to him, it may take a couple of weeks before more information is available to share with the public.

- Normally, information from a preliminary investigation is not shared. But it all depends on what happens, and what you find or don't find, he tells the news agency.

Mohamed Abdukardir Ali received 648 votes and thus also Dalarna's only Riksdag seat for the Left Party. According to media reports, he has now been offered another job by the party.

Maria Forsberg dismisses this as a rumour.

- It is not on the table. I will not talk more about rumours, she says.

Social Democrats party leader Magdalena Andersson says she wants to see a thorough investigation into the suspected election fraud.

- I take it very, very seriously. The Swedish people must of course be confident that the elections will be fair,

When asked if Andersson had contact with the Left Party's party leader Nooshi Dadgostar, she answers:

- I have been in contact with many party leaders in recent days.
