A work safety accident occurred at the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, and a worker fell to his death

A work safety accident recently occurred at the Colosseum, a world-famous monument in Italy, resulting in the death of a worker. Italian Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli ordered the Colosseum to be closed for one day today (23rd) as a sign of respect.

According to comprehensive foreign reports, the industrial safety accident occurred late at night on the 22nd local time. Andrea Moretti, a 22-year-old worker, accidentally fell 10 meters to his death while installing new lighting equipment in the ancient Roman Arena.

After news of Moretti's death came out, the authorities initially announced only a partial closure of the Colosseum, but the move triggered protests from Italy's largest union, the Confederation Confederation of Italy (CGIL).

Natale di Cola, head of the Rome branch of CGIL, pointed out that "humanity trumps tourism" and asked Culture Minister Giulio Giulio to explain the details of the accident. Giuli subsequently ordered the suspension of all maintenance operations at the Roman Coliseum until further notice.

The Colosseum was built 2,000 years ago during the Roman Empire and was used to host gladiator fights, beast hunting, executions and other activities. It is the most visited tourist attraction in Italy.
