Russia's large-scale drone strike in Kiev killed 2 and injured 22. It happened hours after Zelensky met with Trump.

Ukrainian President Zelensky had just met with US President Trump during the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the feasibility of peace and ceasefire. Hours later, Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev on the 23rd, severely damaging railway facilities, warehouses and gas stations, killing at least 2 people and injuring 22 others.

According to Reuters, Kiev city authorities stated that the Russian army used jet drones with faster speeds and higher flying altitudes in this attack, making it one of the most serious air strikes on Kiev and surrounding areas since this summer. Multiple explosions and thick smoke were heard in the center of Kiev. Katarina Mathernova, the EU ambassador to Ukraine, also pointed out on social media that nearby buildings could be seen on fire from the window of the EU representative office.

A few hours before the air strike, Zelensky held talks with Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss the possibility of implementing a bilateral ceasefire on energy facilities and requested the United States to increase the supply of "Patriot" anti-aircraft missile systems to respond to Russian energy grid attacks expected in winter. Zelensky revealed that the two sides did not reach any agreement after the meeting, but he emphasized that Ukraine is open to any form of energy ceasefire as long as Russia stops attacking Ukrainian infrastructure.

In response to the meeting and ceasefire proposal between the heads of state of the United States and Ukraine, the Kremlin spokesperson responded on the 23rd that Russia and Ukraine "do not yet have the basis" for peace negotiations, and there are no plans to arrange high-level meetings between the two sides in the near future. The war situation will still be difficult to break through diplomatic channels in the short term.
