The Libyan Federation announces the signing of Sofiane Boufal for free in preparation for the new season

Al-Ittihad Club, competing in the Libyan Football League, announced on Monday that it had signed Moroccan attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal in a free transfer deal as part of its efforts to strengthen the team’s ranks in preparation for the new season.

The club published on its official Facebook page a clip welcoming Boufal’s arrival to the capital, Tripoli, describing him as a “magician and artist,” in reference to his great artistic skills and abilities.

Al-Ittihad said in its welcome message: “From the shores of the Atlantic to the bride of the Mediterranean, the star of Morocco lands in the capital, Tripoli, to begin a new chapter in the career of the magician, the artist,” before officially welcoming the player to the ranks of the team.

Boufal, 32 years old, has a busy professional career that has moved between Europe and the Middle East, where he played for several clubs, most notably French club Lille, England’s Southampton, Spain’s Celta Vigo, Qatar’s Al Rayyan, Belgium’s Union Saint-Geloise, and France’s Le Havre.

Boufal is considered one of the most prominent players in the Moroccan national team in recent years, and he was part of the squad that made history in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the “Atlas Lions” reached the semi-finals and finished the tournament in fourth place. But he was absent from the 2026 World Cup squad by technical decision.

The Federation is counting on the player’s extensive international experience and skills to add more quality and effectiveness to the team’s ranks, in light of his ambition to compete strongly for titles.
